When you are sewing your own clothing or clothing accessories, you can make the outfits more interesting and whimsical by adding eclectic detailing, such as frayed fabric rosettes. Fabric rosettes can transform a basic skirt or hat into one that appears artistic and creative. You do not have to buy expensive fabrics in order to make fabric rosettes. Instead, make rosettes using frayed and tattered left over fabric that you used to create your clothing.

Instructions

    • 1

Use scissors to cut a rectangle out of frayed fabric. The rectangle should measure 3 inches wide and 12 inches long.

    • 2

Curl 2 inches on one end of the rectangle into a coil. Position the fabric rectangle so that the frayed edge faces up.

    • 3

Sew the coiled end in place, using a needle and thread. This will become the center of the rosette.

    • 4

Wrap the fabric around the center of the rosette loosely, sewing the nonfrayed edge onto itself as you wrap. Keep the frayed edge unsewn, since this edge will become the top of the rosette.

    • 5

Sew the end of the fabric rectangle onto itself to complete the rosette.
