Professional models need to have a portfolio.

Demonstrating your modeling portfolio can be a tricky and intimidating experience. You will want to leave a lasting impression on everyone who sees it. A great portfolio can launch a modeling career so it is important that you build and present it in a professional manner. Instructions

    • 1

Print your photos and headshots in an 8.5-inch by 11-inch format. The preferred size varies from region to region; however this can be considered a standard size and is most widely accepted.

    • 2

Sort your photographs into three categories: bad, good and excellent. Use the excellent photos first and add a few good photos if needed. Twelve photographs is an adequate amount of photographs for a portfolio. Avoid using less than six or more than 20.

    • 3

Mount your photographs onto the pages of your portfolio. Having loose photographs or slides looks unorganized and unprofessional. When you are presenting your portfolio you want your photos and book to be solid, unfolded and well-kept.

    • 4

Hire a modeling agent. Some may prefer to do the promotion work themselves; however, having an agent can make breaking into the modeling field much less stressful. A good agent will already have a solid base of clients and know how the industry works.

    • 5

Build an online version of your portfolio. Again, use only your very best photographs. Make sure to include both headshots as well as full-body shots. Include pages that summarize your work history, contact information and any other information you feel is pertinent.

Set appointments to show your portfolio with potential clients. You should never show up unannounced to closed casting calls. If you have hired an agent it will be his responsibility to set appointments for you.
