Decorating your senior's locker will help send her off in style.

The high schooler's locker represents her home away from home. It's more than just a place where she stores her books and backpack during school hours; it's also where her friends find her between classes and at lunch. During senior year, the locker takes on special significance in many schools. During the last weeks of school, parents and friends gather to decorate the departing senior's locker. Whether college or work are looming on the horizon, this act helps send her off in memorable style.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather parents and friends to decorate the senior's locker. Choose one of the homes as a meeting place and ask people to bring the visual materials they'll post on the locker. Sort through the materials to ensure a variety.

    • 2

Cover the locker with a layer of colored construction or butcher paper to provide a backdrop for the rest of the decorations. Choose school colors, the graduating senior's favorite colors or the school colors of the college he will attend. Make the paper so that it's form-fitting to the locker. Tape this down securely so that the rest of the decorations will not pull the paper down.

    • 3

Print out digital pictures of activities that your senior has done throughout the year and cut into individual pictures. Create a collage from the pictures. Use some creative cutting techniques, such as creating a halo around your senior's head, using zigzag scissors or making the collage into a heart shape.

    • 4

Create some interestingly shaped picture frames for these pictures. For example, cut out a pair of giant sunglasses from card stock. Cut out the eye areas and fill in the frames with sequins. Place your pictures inside them.

    • 5

Tape streamers in the school colors from top to bottom. Some lockers have vents. Attach some of the streamers to these as well.

    • 6

Attach a folder for friends to leave notes. Decorate the folder with sparkle pens, stickers and other decorative elements.

    • 7

Place your teen's senior portrait in the center of the decorations. Cover it with a plastic sleeve to protect it if you're concerned about the wear and tear on it or, better yet, have a color copy made at the local copy shop.

    • 8

Blow up balloons of different shapes and hang at the top and bottom of the locker.

    • 9

Include some senior-themed decorations for the inside of the locker. Go to the dollar store and get magnets, hang pencils from decorative chains and tape gift cards to your teen's favorite lunch restaurant or ice cream shop.
