Instructions on How to Weave a Wreath With 1/4-Inch Flat Reed
When you decorate your home in a rustic style, you can make your rooms look more natural by hanging up decorative wreaths. Although you can buy wreaths from a home decorating store, you can make the wreath more personalized by making it yourself. This also enables you to create a wreath using any materials that you prefer, such as natural reeds. You can buy everything you need in order to make a reed wreath at any arts and crafts store.
Things You'll Need
- 1/4-inch-wide flat reeds
- Pruning shears
- 20-gallon bucket
- Foam florist ring, 18 inch
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue stick
- Silk flowers
Instructions

1
Cut 4 pieces of 1/4-inch wide flat reeds to measure 72 inches long each using pruning shears.
-
2
Place the reeds into a 20-gallon bucket and fill it with hot water. Allow the reeds to soak for 20 minutes.
-
-
3
Place a foam florist ring onto a tabletop, and tie the reeds around the ring. Position 2 of the reeds on the front of the ring and 2 of the reeds on the back of the ring.
-
4
Hold the florist ring upright, and cross the 2 top reeds across the top of the ring. Then cross the 2 bottom reeds across the bottom of the ring.
-
5
Wrap the bottom reeds around the sides of the ring to the top, while wrapping the top reeds around the sides of the ring to the bottom. This will cross the top and bottom reeds on either side.
-
6
Repeat the process until the entire florist ring has been braided. Tuck the ends of the reeds into the braid. Allow the wreath to dry for 12 hours.
-
7
Plug in a hot glue gun for ten minutes to allow the hot glue stick to melt inside.
-
8
Squeeze a dime-sized dollop of hot glue onto the front of the reed wreath. Press a silk flower onto the hot glue, and hold it in place for one minute to let the glue cool and harden. Repeat to add on as many silk flowers as you prefer.
