How to Download Files to a Pen Drive

How to Download Files to a Pen Drive thumbnail
Use a pen drive to store files downloaded from a computer network.

A pen drive is an external storage device often known as a USB or thumb drive; most pen drives plug into a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port on a computer. The pen drive stores data on solid-state flash memory. Because pen drives can store several gigabytes of data in a small space, they are a popular choice for transporting files from one computer to another.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the pen drive into the computer. A new Windows Explorer window will open automatically, showing the current contents of the pen drive. Leave that window open.

    • 2

Download the files to your computer. The specific way of performing this step depends on the download method; you may download files in many ways, such as using a Web browser, FTP or Wget. For example, to download a file using a Web browser, navigate to the Web page containing a download link for the file. Click on the download link, then click "Save" to instruct the browser to create a local copy of the file by downloading it to your computer. Wait until the browser's progress window indicates that the download has completed.

    • 3

Click "Start," then click "Computer." A Windows Explorer window will open. Navigate to the folder that contains the file you downloaded in Step 2.

    • 4

Click on the file you downloaded and, without releasing the mouse button, drag the file to the Windows Explorer window you opened in Step 1. Windows will copy the downloaded file to the pen drive.
