How to Use Windows With Mouse Gestures

Released in 2009, the seventh version of Windows is supported by the Aero interface. The new user interface includes mouse gestures that allow the user to hide, resize and organize windows more efficiently. Referred to as "Snap," "Peek" and "Shake," the Aero gestures work by hovering over certain aspects of the screen, clicking certain regions of windows and moving the mouse in specific ways. The Aero gestures work with either a trackpad or a mouse.

Instructions

  1. Snap

    • 1

Click and hold down the mouse button while your cursor is placed on the top edge of the application window you have open.

    • 2

Drag the application window to the top edge of the screen and release the mouse button to make the window snap to fill the entire screen.

    • 3

Drag the application window quickly to the left or right edge of the screen and release the mouse button to make the window snap to fill the corresponding half of the screen. For instance, if you drag the window to the left edge of the screen, the window will snap to fill the left half of the screen.

    Peek

    • 4

Point your mouse to the far right side of the task bar, over the "Peek" button. All of the open windows turn partially transparent with black outlines, revealing the desktop.

    • 5

Click the "Peek" button to make all of the windows minimize to their corresponding task bar icons.

    • 6

Click the "Peak" button again to make all of the windows reappear on the screen.

    Shake

    • 7

Click and hold the mouse button while cursor is over the top edge of an application window.

    • 8

Shake the mouse cursor to make all of the other open windows disappear.

    • 9
