How to Grease a Pompadour
The pompadour is a men's hairstyle that became wildly popular in the 1950s, thanks to icons of the decade, such as Elvis Presley and James Dean. The style is defined by combing greased hair upward and back from the forehead. Today the pompadour lives on as a choice for men who desire a dramatic hairstyle -- or as part of a Halloween costume. Dampen your hair without soaking, making it is easier to comb and style.

Scoop a dollop of grease -- in the form of pomade or other hair product -- into your hand. Rub it between your palms to spread it out and heat it up, making it easier to work with.

Apply the pomade to your hair. Begin with the sides of your head, running your hands over the hair from front to back. Then rub your hands over the top of your head from front to back. Distribute the pomade evenly.

Comb the hair backward, starting with the sides, and keeping it tight to your scalp.

Comb the hair just above your forehead upward to give it height before pulling it back.
