How to Make a Black & Tan With Guinness & Smith

Whether you're looking for the perfect drink to celebrate with on Saint Patrick's Day or just something to sip as you wind down at the end of a long day, a black and tan is an easy-to-make drink that's full of Irish spirit. While they can be made with any stout and ale, a black and tan made with Guinness and Smithwick's, both Irish drinks, is especially true to the drink's Irish heritage. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Grab a pint glass. Fill it half full with Smithwicks, an Irish red ale for the "tan" part of the drink.

    • 2

Hold a spoon over the pint glass. Pour the Guinness, slowly and carefully, over the back of the spoon into the glass so it settles on top of the Smithwicks. The Guinness, a dark-colored stout, becomes the "black" part of the beverage.

    • 3

Wipe any spilled beer off the side of the glass. Take a sip and enjoy.
