How to Stream From a Mac to Ubuntu
If you use your Mac to create, edit or store video files and you can watch them on another computer on the same network. You can set up your video folders to stream over the network so you can watch on a Ubuntu machine. You have to repeat this process each time you reboot your computer, but not every time you want to watch a video.

Share Files on a Mac

Login to your administrative account on your Mac and click on the Apple icon. Click the "System Preferences," click the "View" menu and "Sharing."

Click on "File Sharing" in the left window and push the plus sign under the Shared Folders window. Navigate to the video folder with the videos you want to stream.

Push the "Options" button and click the option labeled "Share files and folders using FTP." This is how you share with Ubuntu and other Linux computers on a Mac. Press the "Done" button.

Click on your Home folder in the dock to open it.

Choose the "Network" in the left side of the window.

Double-click on the Mac where you shared folders and double click on the shared folder of the videos. It mounts this folder on your desktop as well as opening it in the folder you have open.

Double click on the video you want to watch to stream it from the Mac to your Ubuntu machine.

Tips & Warnings
If you have difficulty accessing videos after you have had the folder mounted, click the Eject icon next to the shared folder and repeat Section 2 to mount it again.
