Getting a sailing dinghy from your car to the water doesn't have to be a big chore.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Boat Shoes
  • Sunscreen
  • 1 Approved Life Jackets
  • Boating Ropes
  • Dinghys
  • boat racks
  • lightweight, waterproof jackets
  1. Step 1

Move the car as close to your launching point as possible.

  2. Step 2

Remove any tie-down straps. If the boat shifted at all during transport, it may become off-balance.

  3. Step 3

Position your partner across from you, either at the bow or stern.

  4. Step 4

Slide the boat out as close to the edge as you can without it tipping.

  5. Step 5

Spread your arms at least a foot apart. Support the boat's weight as it begins to tip, and slide it off the rack.

  6. Step 6

Get the boat's weight down to waist level as soon as possible. It will seem lighter when it's no longer up by your face or chest.

  7. Step 7

Walk the boat to your launching point. Prepare to put it down if either person feels the need.

  8. Step 8

Turn it over if it was placed on the roof rack with the deck down.

  9. Step 9

Lower the boat to the beach or dock from which it will be launched.

Tips & Warnings
  • Lifting over your head and bending to lower and lift the boat can cause excessive muscle and back strain. Be careful. And don't attempt this alone; it's a two-person job.
