How to Evolve Pokemon in the Pokemon Pokedex
There are several different ways to evolve Pokemon to gain their evolution's Pokedex entry in the various Pokemon games. The most common method is to reach a certain level, but some Pokemon evolve when traded, some evolve when given a special stone, and some evolve when a stat known as "happiness" is raised to the highest level. In order to complete the Pokedex and obtain all 649 Pokemon, you will need to obtain all the Pokemon evolutions. Note that not every Pokemon has an evolution.

Use an online Pokedex to determine the exact level at which your Pokemon evolves.

Battle other Pokemon to gain experience points. Once you have reached a certain number of experience points, you will gain a level.

Raise your Pokemon's level until it evolves. Alternatively, you can use "Rare Candy" items to raise its level. There are some Pokemon who will only evolve if they know a certain item, are a certain gender, have their happiness stat at its maximum, know a certain attack or are leveled-up in a certain location.
Trading

Travel to any Pokemon Center in the game. To trade with another person, you will need to have someone else with a DS to trade with. Have the other person travel to any Pokemon Center as well.

Go up to the second floor of the Pokemon Center and talk to the trade attendant. Select "Trade" to begin the trading process.

Select your Pokemon and have the other person select her Pokemon. Once the trade has been completed, the traded Pokemon will evolve. There are some Pokemon that will only evolve if traded while holding a certain item.
Stones

Determine the stone that causes your Pokemon to evolve. Only a few Pokemon evolve through stones.

Purchase the stone from the Pokemart that stocks them or find the stone in the game. The location of the stones depends on which version of "Pokemon" you are playing.

Select the stone from the "Items" list and use it on your Pokemon to have it evolve.
