How to Text on GIMP

Words may not catch the eye quite the way an image does, but they are at least as important when you are creating a sign, flier or similar documents. For this reason, you should be very careful when using and placing text in your document. If you are working in the free graphics and photo-editing application GIMP, the process of adding text to your document is quite simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the GIMP application. Select "File" from the menu and choose "New." In the dialog, choose the pixel width and height and click "OK."

    • 2

Select the "Text" tool from the toolbar. In the tool options panel, choose the font size, style and color you want for your text.

    • 3

Hold down the left mouse button and drag to add a text box to the canvas. In the dialog that appears, type in your text and click "OK." Save your work.
