How to Make Neck Fluffs

Create a variety of neck fluffs to sell at craft fairs.

Create your own neck fluff, a type of yarn necklace that fits around the neck in a loose choker fashion. Neck fluffs match well with solid-color turtlenecks, V-necks tops and T-shirts, and come in a wide variety of colors and styles. To make such accessories, find "novelty yarn" -- thin strands of yarn that are made from cashmere. This yarn is easily braided and worked with as opposed to thicker, more bulky yarn strands. Choose any color you like.

Instructions

    • 1

String novelty yarn around your neck comfortably to determine the correct length. Make two sections of 4 to 10 strands each depending on the size of the yarn. Trim the yarn as needed with your scissors. Place on your crafting table for braiding.

    • 2

Tape one end of the yarn pieces to make braiding easier. Braid the two sections separately. Tie off both ends of each braid.

    • 3

Wind the two braided pieces around one another and secure the ends of both pieces with a dab of hot glue. Allow to dry for 5 to 10 minutes. Do not tie the ends of the braids together unless you are making a neck fluff large enough to fit over your head.

    • 4

Fluff the accessory, taking sections out of the braid to create a full appearance. Refrain from taking entire strands out of the braids. Rather partially displace strands with small, quick pulls.

    • 5

Wear your neck fluff as desired. Tie your neck fluff on using the braided ends or attach a necklace clasp by sealing the ends of the clasp to either end of the fluff with hot glue.

Tips & Warnings

  • Thread small glass, plastic or wooden beads through the yarn while braiding for extra decoration.
