How to Install Blender With Python

Learning how to install the free three dimensional imaging program Blender with the programming language Python gives you access to a resource for creating three dimensional designs whose features you can extend with software development. Blender versions older than 2.5 required you to locate and install Python manually. However, Blender now comes bundled with Python, and will install that language as part of the Blender installation. Though one screen in the setup program allows you to customize the components the program will install, choose instead to accept the default parameters, to ensure the program will install Python.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Blender download page in your browser, then click the link that displays the text "Blender installer." Your browser will redirect to another page. After a brief pause, a dialog box will appear prompting you to save the installation file. Click "Save" to initiate the download.

Double click the file after it's completed downloading. The setup program will run and display introductory text. Click "Next" on this screen, then read the license agreement on the screen that follows. Click the "I agree" button to move to the next installation screen.

Click "Next" on the "Choose components" screen to indicate you accept the components that the setup program will install, one of which is Python. Click the "Install" button on the "Install location" screen. The setup program will install Blender on your system, then run the program once installation is complete.

Click the taskbar icon that displays the "Blender.exe" window to expose the command line portion of Blender, which prints diagnostic messages. The window will display the text "Found bundled Python," which indicates your installation of Blender included the installation of Python.

Hover your mouse over the window border above which the menus "View" and "Select" appear. When the mouse cursor changes to a two-headed arrow, drag upward. This expands the lower window, so you can see the list of commands, which you'll display next.

Click the cube-shaped button in the bottom left of the window, then click the "Python" console from the list of commands that appears. Blender will open a new window that will display the text "Python interactive console," which verifies you've installed Python during your Blender installation.
