Trailers make launching a small sailboat an easy task.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Boat Shoes
  • Sun Hats
  • 1 Sunscreen Suntan Lotion
  • Lip Balm
  • 1 Approved Life Jackets
  • Boating Ropes
  • Dinghys
  • lightweight, waterproof jackets
  1. Step 1

Back the boat down the launch ramp.

  2. Step 2

Stop before the stern of the boat hangs over the water.

  3. Step 3

Remove the tie-down straps and lines.

  4. Step 4

Remove the bow retrieval line if applicable.

  5. Step 5

Back the boat down until the trailer wheels are submerged or until the ramp ends, whichever comes first.

  6. Step 6

Secure a bowline in your hand or to a dock.

  7. Step 7

Push the boat off the trailer. If it binds when you push from the bow, move aft, and push from a point closer to the beam.

  8. Step 8

Drive the car back to a parking space, and go sailing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some trailers and ramps will allow you to get the boat nearly all the way into the water. The further you go, the easier it is to get the boat on and off the trailer.
  • Avoid getting your vehicle's back wheels wet, or you may lose your traction.
