How to Use a Granite Work Space Without Kitchen Cabinets
Finding work space in the kitchen can sometimes be a battle because kitchens can easily attract clutter and become crowded with furniture and appliances. Few kitchens have a wealth of counter space and storage. A granite kitchen work space without built-in cabinetry usually refers to a granite countertop or granite-topped kitchen island that has shelves underneath, as opposed to cupboards. Use the granite work space as a built-in desk. If you work out of your home, you can use the granite surface as a quiet place to put your desk, separating it from the noise of the rest of the home. Install shelves and drawers to hold your supplies.

Place stools around the granite-topped island or along the edge if it's installed against the wall and use it as a seating and eating area. This is an ideal use of the space for small kitchens or if you'd like to create an informal eating area.

Designate the granite counter as the food-prep area and the single place in the kitchen for cutting, chopping, grating and mixing. Install shelves and racks under the counter to hold knives, cutting boards, mixing bowls and other tools and supplies. Keep the space clear of appliances that would just add clutter.

Install wheels at the bottom of the legs of the granite-topped island and use it mobile work space, pushing it to the area of the kitchen that needs it. Alternatively, you can use it as a divider in the kitchen, separating the work area from the dining area.
