How to Track Subdomains
The tracking features of Google Analytics allows its users to observe their website's performance, from how many visitors they get per day, how they got to the website as well as what search terms they typed into Google in order to find it. This information is invaluable to Webmasters in finding out what works best for each website. Individuals can use Google Analytics not only for main websites, but to track subdomains as well. To track the main domain and subdomains, you must first create a duplicate profile in Google Analytics and then insert the code that appears onto the website.
Instructions

1
Log in to your Google Analytics account and scroll down the page to the domain name you'd like to add subdomains for.
-
2
Click on the "Add New Profile" link to the right of the screen beside the domain name you'd like to add subdomains to. Click the radio button beside where it states "Add a Profile for an Existing Domain" on the page that follows; make sure the correct domain is selected in the drop-down menu and give it a name. Since you'll be installing the code onto a subdomain, use the subdomain's title or name to make it easier to track.

3
Set your country and time zone and click on the "Continue" button. This will return you to the main dashboard of Google Analytics. Your new subdomain profile will now appear under the main domain's header along with any other subdomains from that website you decide to add code to.
-
4
Click on the "Edit" link to the right of your newly made profile and then click on the "Check Status" link in the upper right-hand corner on the next page.
-
5
Copy the Google Analytics code for your new profile and paste it into the HTML coding or index files of your subdomain. Save your changes. Note that it can take a few hours for Google Analytics to register that your new code is in fact installed on a subdomain.
-
6
Check back in a day or two to see if the code is working properly. Remember, you can always remove the code and install a new one at any time by editing the HTML or index files of your website.
