Giving a toast in person may seem overwhelming, especially if you are unsure of what to say to the woman or lady you are toasting or how to approach it. Whether you are giving a toast to her at a wedding or at a celebratory event, preparing and practicing your toast speech ahead of time will allow you to relax and deliver your message to her with ease. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Reflect on why you would like to give a toast including what the event is for and who will be attending. Think of the overall message you wish convey and whether or not it will be serious or funny. Keep the audience's age group in mind and keep the content of the toast appropriate to the group.

    • 2

Write your toast down in order of the topics or subjects you would like to mention while speaking. It will help to remember talking points to keep your toast going smoothly when you are talking.

    • 3

Practice the toast in front of a mirror to view your facial expressions and body language when speaking. Stay relaxed, calm and as natural as possible while keeping your voice loud and confident.

    • 4

Time your toast so that it is no more than 3 minutes and keep the content of the toast simple, yet personal. You will likely loose the attention of the audience if you speak longer than 3 minutes.

    • 5

Introduce yourself so everyone in the audience understands your connection to the woman being toasted. Speak sincerely and with honesty. Look directly at the woman being toasted while you speak.

    • 6

End your toast with a sincere wish of congratulations for the toastee. Invite the audience to raise a glass in her honor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid sharing overly personal or "embarrassing" stories of the lady you are toasting, a "roast" is appropriate only in very special circumstances.
