Export Quicken report data to Excel for advanced formatting options.

Quicken offers more than 50 ready-made reports that you can use to summarize and analyze your account data. Although you can make basic customizations to Quicken reports, exporting your report data to Excel offers several advantages. In Excel, you can edit, format and analyze data beyond the capabilities of Quicken's fixed report formats, and you can share data with other Microsoft Office applications.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the report that you want to export to Excel from the "Reports" drop-down menu at the top of the Quicken screen.

    • 2

Customize your report, if needed. To change the dates covered in the report, select an option from the "Date Range" drop-down list. To make additional customizations, click the "Customize" button. In the box that opens, you can specify the exact accounts, categories, payees and tags that you want to include.

    • 3

Select "Report to Excel Compatible Format" from the "Export Data" drop-down menu.

    • 4

Enter a file name in the "Create Excel Compatible File" box and click the "Save" button. Quicken saves this data as a text file to the Quicken folder on your computer, but you can change to a different folder if you prefer.

    • 5

Select "Open" from the "File" drop-down menu in Excel to open the "Open" box.

    • 6

Click "All Files" from the drop-down list in the lower right corner of the box.

    • 7

Go to the folder where you saved your report data, select the file and click the "Open" button.

    • 8

Click the "Finish" button in the "Text Import Wizard" box to import the Quicken data into Excel using the default file format (a tab delimited file). You can customize the import process if you have experience working with text file formats.

    • 9

Modify your report data in Excel. For example, you can use Excel to modify font size and appearance, or to summarize your report data in different ways.

    • 10

Select "Save As" from the "File" drop-down menu to open the "Save As" box. Select "Excel Workbook" from the "Save As Type" drop-down list and click the "Save" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • Quicken enables you to export data from any of its existing report formats, such as Banking, Spending, Investing, Tax or Business. You can also export from a customized report that you've saved.

  • If you click the "Save" button in the toolbar, Excel saves your data in its original format rather than as an Excel workbook.
