How to Install T1-11 Border

T1-11 is a type of plywood generally used for exterior applications. It is often found as the walls of sheds or other small exterior buildings. It installs similar to paneling and can be installed on the inside of the house. After T1-11 is installed, it may be necessary to add a border around it. The best border to add is a type of molding called cap molding. This fits directly over the edges of the T1-11 and can be installed to give the T1-11 a finished look. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the area where the sheets of T1-11 have been installed. Run a tape measure across the top of the T1-11 and record the measurement in feet. Double that measurement to account for the border on the bottom and repeat the process for the sides.

    • 2

Measure and mark the cap molding with a pencil so it can be cut to fit the length of the T1-11. Line up the blade of a hacksaw with the mark on the molding and cut straight along the mark until it is cut in two. Repeat the process for all four sides of the T1-11.

    • 3

Place the cap molding over top of the T1-11 beginning at the top. Press the molding up firmly against the wall so the lip is hanging down slightly over the T1-11. Hammer in finishing nails every 8 inches directly into the center of the cap molding.

    • 4

Position the bottom piece under the T1-11 and repeat the process for all of the remaining sides until the border is completely around the T1-11. Apply wood putty over the nail holes and cover up all holes made with the hammer. Let it dry thoroughly.

    • 5

Sand down the area where you applied the wood putty with medium grade sandpaper until the surface is smooth and even throughout.
