How to Use Your Email Account With Emphasis on Download Speed thumbnail
Boost your download speed with a few simple steps.

Email clients are used to send email messages and attached files to other email addresses through an Internet connection. When you receive an email attachment, you need to download it to your computer in order to view the document or run the program. If your downloading speed is sluggish, there are a few things that you can do in order to boost it back up. You don't have to download any additional programs to do this. You can do it yourself with little hassle.

Instructions

    • 1

Close unused programs on your computer while you are downloading attachments from your email client. Running programs in the background on your computer can drain Random Access Memory (RAM) and Central Processing Unit (CPU) speed.

    • 2

Move the wireless router in your home so it has a central location to your computer. Walls, appliances and even cell phones can cause a bad signal going to your computer. If the router is in the central location, the signal will flow without being bogged down.

    • 3

Run a firmware update on your router if it needs one. This can usually be done by logging into your router at "192.168.1.1" and clicking on the "update" button. If you don't have an update button, consult your owner's manual on how to run an update to the firmware.

Run your anti-virus and anti-spyware program on your system. Spyware and viruses can easily eat up your bandwidth and make your downloading time increase.

    • 5

Use one browser window when you are online. If you have browser windows open, the ads from the other windows can cause your Internet to become sluggish.
