Home cooks like preparing spaghetti dinners because, with just a few ingredients, they can feed a crowd, even a picky one. If you find you've cooked too much pasta and sauce, you can store it to use it later. Saving extras will lower your grocery bill and provide you with a satisfying meal anytime you like. The USDA says that leftovers should be heated to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. There are several methods you can use to achieve this temperature and heat the food thoroughly.

Place the sauce and spaghetti in an ovenproof dish. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Sprinkle Parmesan or mozzarella cheese on the spaghetti. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil. Heat for 15 to 20 minutes.

Place spaghetti and sauce in a microwave safe dish. Add 1 teaspoon of water to the food. Cover the food loosely with plastic wrap. Heat for 1 minute intervals until the food is thoroughly heated.

Pour the spaghetti and sauce into a saucepan. Add a tablespoon of water to the pan if the sauce is thick. Heat the food on a low heat for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to keep food from scorching.

Tip

If unsure about the internal temperature of the food, place a thermostat in the food before eating.
