How to Use a Fluke IR Heat Probe
Temperature is typically measured using a mercury thermometer which consists of a glass vial containing liquid mercury. Temperature changes lead to expansion and contraction of the mercury liquid which can be read off a scale. It can be useful to measure the temperature of an object without making contact with it and under these circumstances a Fluke infrared (IR) thermometer (heat probe) can be used.

1
Remove the back panel of the Fluke IR thermometer. Under the panel there is a selection switch (marked A) to choose the units of temperature measurement. Select the desired units.
-
2
Place a 9-volt battery into the Fluke IR thermometer. Place the back panel back onto the main unit.

3
Point the infrared sensor at the top of the unit towards the object that needs its temperature to be measured. Press and hold the "On" button. A laser should be seen on the object. After a few seconds the temperature of the object will appear on the digital screen. The measured temperature will be held on the screen for seven seconds after the measurement has completed.
