How to Store Weaving Cones
Weaving cones, more often called yarn cones, are a means of storing yarn, thread or string. These storage devices are usually made of cylindrically shaped cardboard or plastic with a hole down the middle. The cones can hold long lengths of cotton, wool, polyester or other stringed materials. The problem with these cones only presents itself when you are trying to store them. There are four main ways you can store these cones to get them out of your way.

Buy a yarn tree. A yarn tree resembles the shape of a tree but is constructed of a main wooden piece and dowels sticking out the sides. You can store several yarn and weaving cones at once with this device. There are various sizes to choose from, and you can acquire these from several online distributors.

Use a yarn cone holder. Yarn cone holders are used to store one cone at a time. You can also use the holder to suspend the yarn cone horizontally as you work. The cone will turn readily as you work, so there is no need for yanking or pulling. This device is nice if you don't want to switch between using and storing the yarn cone.

Grab a basket. Although this is not as glamorous as some other ways to store your weaving and yarn cones, it is easy. Find a wooden or wicker basket, place your cones in it and store it anywhere that is convenient. If you place it near the area where you weave or knit, you can grab what you need from the basket with ease. There are several colors and sizes and decoratively-designed baskets that you can choose from for this purpose.

Press a warping machine into double duty, when it is not in use. A handy way to use your warping machine when you are not actually warping is to double it as a weaving and yarn cone storage space. There are plenty of areas to secure the cone in place on this machine. The downside to using this kind of storage area is that you will need to move the cones out of the way when you are winding a warp.
