How to Cancel Friend Requests You Send on Facebook

Before you can communicate with individuals on Facebook, you must send a Friend Request to the person and have him accept the request. If you sent a Friend Request to the wrong person or if you change your mind about adding someone as a Friend, it is not possible to directly retract the Friend Request. By blocking the individual and then unblocking them, however, you can effectively cancel the Friend Request you sent.

      Open your Web browser and visit Facebook.com/privacy.php.

      Input your account login information into the upper right fields on the page, if necessary.

      Click the "Edit your lists" in the "Block Lists" section at the bottom of the page.

      Type the name of the person you wish cancel the friend request for into the "Name" field in the "Block users" section. A list of possible individuals that match your search will appear. Click the "Block" button next to the individual you wish to cancel the friend request for. The friend will appear in a list below the "Name" and "Email" fields in the "Block users" section.

      Click the "Unblock" link next to the friend's name. A pop-up window will appear; click "Confirm." This will effectively remove the friend request.
