Instructions

    • 1

Sketch a diagram of your property on a piece of paper. Include any landmarks on the diagram, such as your home and trees. Draw very carefully where the pipes will run. This will help guide you where to dig for your pipes.

    • 2

Outline the location of where the pipes will run in your yard. Use a can of spray paint on the grass so you can easily tell where the pipes should be placed.

    • 3

Place a small flag or wooden stake at each location where the sprinkler head will be. The number of flags or stakes should match that of the number of heads for your system.

    • 4

Dig the ditches for the sprinkler PVC pipes using the pick ax. Make sure each trench is of equal depth, between 8 to 12 inches. Use the handle of the pick ax to level the bottom of each ditch.

    • 5

Lay out the 1/2-inch pieces of PVC pipe in the trenches. Assemble each pipe together as needed with PVC glue or connectors. Cut any pieces to the correct size using the hacksaw. Attach the riser at each sprinkler head, making sure the riser connects the pipe to each head.

    • 6

Place the dugout dirt over the pipes to secure them in place. Run a small garden hose from the system's manifold valve to an outdoor faucet connection. Turn the water on to activate the sprinkler system.
