Traditionally, zombies are dead humans who have risen from the "other side" and have lost self-awareness and rationality. 1
Drench your hair completely in water, as if you are getting out of the shower. Holding your head over a bathtub or the kitchen sink, mix dirt in with your wet hair, creating a slight muddy effect. The amount of dirt will vary depending on the length of the hair, but don't overdo it. Clay-textured dirt works best because it is sticky, thereby achieving a messy appearance.

Before your hair dries, apply pomade. The amount of pomade will vary depending on the length of the hair. Massage the pomade into the hair, shaping it in the desired fashion. When it begins to dry into a set position, begin blow drying for five to 10 minutes, maintaining the desired hairstyle. The messier and frizzier, the better.

When your hair is dry and in its desired style, apply white theater make-up randomly throughout the hair. Be careful not to mess up the style too much by flattening it out. Apply throughout your hair to achieve a weathered and stressed appearance.

For extra effect, try adding a few ingredients to your hair. Drip small amounts of fake blood onto the forehead and in the hair so that it drips slightly down the face. For an outdoorsy zombie, consider tangling some twigs or feathers into the hair.

Tips & Warnings
Take a shower after you finish being a zombie for the day. Apply a liberal amount of shampoo in your hair, making sure to clean out all of the dirt. Rinse out, then reapply. After all the dirt is thoroughly removed, apply conditioner into your hair to soften it.
