How to Find the Detail on a Thread on Facebook

Save

Facebook automatically organizes your private messages into threads, so you can follow a conversation in the same way you would an IM chat or forum discussion. Once a message thread gets too long, however, you may have difficulty finding information from previous messages. Facebook has a built-in search feature to help you find specific details, such as words or phrases, in a message thread.

  • Click the "Messages" icon in the top-left menu.

  • Select a message from the drop-down menu, or click "See All Messages," and scroll down to select the message thread you wish to search.

  • Type the word or phrase you want to find in the "Search This Conversation" box, at the top right of the page.

  • Click the "Search" button (magnifying glass) or just press "Enter" to search. The thread will refresh, showing you the detail you requested.

Tips & Warnings

  • To search other Facebook content, press the "Ctrl" and "F" keys at the same time to bring up your browser's "Find" function.
