Wetsuit makers use neoprene.

There are many reasons one might choose to cover factory-installed leather seats with neoprene. Neoprene seat covers are waterproof, durable and available in a variety of designs. Having neoprene seat covers professionally installed can be a costly option, so companies make available easy-to-install car seat covers for the budget conscious vehicle owner.

Instructions

  1. Choosing Covers

    • 1

Go to a car seat cover company's website and enter your car's make and model information.

    • 2

Choose the configuration of your car's seats. Specify, for example, if you have a 60/40 split bench, bench seat or bucket seats.

    • 3

Choose the material and color for your car seat covers.

    • 4

      Order your car seat covers.

    Installation

    • 5

Lay out the seat covers. Look over the directions for installing them. If you're re-covering bucket seats, take the headrests off the top of the front seats. Pull the new seat cover over the back of the seat. Pull the excess material through the crack in the seat from the front to the back and attach using the Velcro on each end. Repeat with the other bucket seat.

    • 6

Lay the bottom seat covers on the bucket seats, neoprene side up. Feed the bungee cords down the sides of the seats and attach each to its corresponding loop.

    • 7

If you're re-covering a 60/40 bench seat, remove the headrests from the rear seats. Lean the back 60/40 bench seats forward by pulling on the seat levers. Pull the respective 60 and 40 seat covers over the backs of the seat. Pull the extra material through the seat crack and attach using the provided Velcro. Return the seats to their upright position.

    • 8

Lay the lower seat covers on the respective 60 and 40 sides of the seats. Feed the bungee cords down the sides of the seats and connect to the appropriate loops.

    • 9

Lay out all four headrests. Take the headrest covers and pull them over each headrest. Attach the cover by stretching the bottom pieces and connecting them with the Velcro provided. Reinstall the headrests.
