How to Move an Avatar in "Second Life"

"Second Life" is an online virtual world where you can interact with other users and trade virtual property. When you join "Second Life," you are represented by an avatar, which you can customize to look however you like. In order to properly experience the virtual world, however, you will need to learn some of the commands that will move your avatar from one place to another.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the "Second Life Viewer" application. Enter your username and password to enter the world.

    • 2

Press the up arrow key on your keyboard to walk forward, and the down arrow key to walk backward. Use the left and right arrow keys to turn your avatar to the left and right. These commands will work whether you are on the ground or in the air.

    • 3

Press "E" or the "Page Up" button to leave the ground and start flying. Hold either of these buttons down to go higher. When you are ready to come back down, press and hold "C" or the "Page Down" button to drop in altitude.

    • 4

Hold "Shift" while you press the right or left arrow to walk to your right or left.

    • 5

Click the "Move" button at the bottom of the screen if you would rather use the mouse to move. Click the arrow in the small window that corresponds to the direction you want to move. You can move forward and backward, and turn side to side. You can also jump and crouch with the two arrows on the right side of the window, and walk right or left with the two arrows at the bottom of the window. Finally, you can shift between walking, running and flying by using the three buttons at the bottom of the window.
