How to Make Pac-Man on Facebook Chat

Chat emoticons are a fun way to make expressions and break up the monotony of text-only chat. Many standard keyboard characters come into play when making emoticons. Pairing specific combinations of the characters lets you display special smiley faces in color on the chat screen. One favorite smiley face is the Pac-man emoticon. The character displays with his mouth open as if he is going to eat your words, instead of the dots typical of the Pac-man game.

  • Type ":"--the emoticon symbol for eyes. This character is called a colon and is on the top of the key directly to the left of the "L" on the keyboard. You will need to press the shift key before pressing the key in order for the colon to populate on the screen.

  • Type a lowercase "v" for the Pac-man style mouth. The "v" key is near the lower left center of the keyboard.

  • Press the space bar if you would like to type a message on the same line as the Pac-man emoticon. If you do not wish to type text, skip to step 5.

  • Type any words you would like to display besides Pac-man smiley. For a fun twist, alternate pressing the ":" (hyphen) key and the space bar to make dots reminiscent of the old-style Pac-man arcade games.

  • Press "enter." The Pac-man smiley face and the words you typed will display in the chat box.
