How to Convert PRC Amazon Kindle Files to PDF

Converting an ebook into a different format allows you to load the same book onto a different platform that might not be compatible with the original file type. Ebooks created using the PRC file format stem back to the Palm Pilot PDA devices, though the Amazon Kindle maintains compatibility with these types of digital books. PRC ebooks offer a variety of text, table of contents and illustration formatting options, which can be converted to a host of other ebook formats -- such as Adobe's PDF -- using simple, free online tools.

  • Launch your computer's Web browser by clicking its icon on the desktop.

  • Navigate to an online tool for converting ebook file formats, such as Online-Convert (, Free File Converter ( or DocsPal (

  • Click the "Choose File" or "Browse" button, depending on the online tool you're using, to select the PRC file to upload. Navigate to the PRC ebook on your computer that you want to convert to a PDF, select it and click the "Open" button.

  • Select the file output format as "PDF" from the drop-down menu, if required. Some online tools offer different output options, while others only convert to PDF.

  • Click the "Convert file" button, and the ebook will be uploaded to the online tool, where it will be processed. Do not close the Web page while the conversion is in progress.

  • Choose a location on your computer to save the converted PDF ebook when prompted by the online conversion website, and click the "Save" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • The online tool will automatically give the converted ebook the same title as the original, but you can change it when saving if required.
  • The PRC format is essentially the same as MOBI and AWZ files, so if your chosen online conversion tool doesn't directly support PRCs, change its file extension to MOBI or AWZ before uploading.
