How To Repair Nylon Fabric

Nylon is valued as a synthetic fabric for its durability. It is waterproof and lasts a long time, which is why many jackets, military gear and outerwear are made of it. Even with its durability, though, rips and tears will occasionally occur. If you find yourself with nylon fabric that needs repair, you can take it to a professional. If this is too expensive or simply not an option, you may be able to repair it yourself at home.

Unroll enough nylon tape to thoroughly cover the tear, rip or hole. Make sure you leave enough tape beyond the tear so that it will adhere to the fabric. Use your scissors to cut off the measured amount.

Remove the backing from the tape and discard it.

Press the tape to the damaged area sticky side down. Smooth it out using your fingers, making sure that no air bubbles form. If an air bubble forms and you can't smooth it out, peel the tape off and try again.

Turn the material over or inside out. If there is no sticky side of the tape showing from the other side, you are done. If you can see the sticky side of the tape, proceed to the next step.

Measure and cut another piece of tape to cover the exposed part of the first strip of tape. Repeat steps 2-3 again. The repair is now complete.
