1
Reduce the sensitivity level by turning the dial to a lower setting if you are receiving erratic signals from the detector. Reduce the level a little at a time until the false readings stop. Also, try swinging the coils a little slower.
-
2
Move away from power lines or other metal detectors that are in use if your detector has a pulsing or distorted signaling tone instead of a clear tone.
-
-
3
Replace the batteries with new ones if you get a constant loud tone or constant repeating tones from the metal detector.
-
4
Hold the metal detector extended in front of your body so the coil is about 1/2 inch above the ground to detect metals accurately.
-
5
Adjust the coil so it's parallel to the ground when you are holding the detector in the search position, to help avoid misreadings.
-
6
Sweep the detector slowly from side to side as you search, keeping the coil level as it moves to avoid false readings.
