How to Tie a Rope Rug
Create a rug or mat out of a new or old climbing rug that is about 100 feet long. There is a variety of knots to choose from when considering how to tie a rope rug, from the more difficult Turk knot to the simpler braided knot. Use a clean rope to create your rug by washing dirty and stained ropes first. Coil the rope prior to tying knots. Proudly display your rope rug inside or out once it is finished. They add a rustic charm to country decor and are practical on the patio.
Instructions

Braid Knot
-
1
Loop the rope around twice to create three strands. The braid knot is basically the same as braiding hair.
-
2
Bring the bottom strand over the center strand
-
-
3
Lay the top strand over the new center strand.
-
4
Continue alternating strands from bottom over center, to top over new center until rope is completely braided.
Weavers Knot
-
5
Cross ends of rope, left over right while holding the crossing part between your thumb and first finger. The ends should stand up straight.
-
6
Pass the right end behind the left end and bring to front between the two ends
-
7
Bend the right end down into a circle pinch it under your thumb with the rope there.
-
8
Tighten by pulling on the remaining end with your right hand.
Prolong Knot
-
9
Place the center of the rope over a hook securely anchored in the wall at arm's height.
-
10
Tie a loose half-knot extending it a reasonable distance from the hook.
-
11
Twist the left loop to the right side and then the right loop to the left side so that it is over the loop you just created.
-
12
Weave the left strand into the right pattern, followed with the right stand into the left pattern.
-
13
Adjust to desired tightness. Over-tightening distorts the knot.
