Use a decorative knot to tie a tassel to a flag pole.

National, state and organizational flags are proudly displayed, both indoors and out. Flags that are displayed indoors are often attached to a decorated pole and stand. A tassel is also commonly featured, along with the flag, as part of the display. A traditional feature, tassels add a formal appearance to the flag. Tassels should be attached to the flag pole, following an accepted method so that the flag is properly presented.

Instructions

Hold the tassel cord and fold it in half to create a loop at one end and the even tassel ends at the other.

    • 2

Grasp the tassel cords below the loop. Feed the loop through the eye at the top of the flag pole. Pull 6 inches of the loop through the eye.

    • 3

Feed the free ends of the tassel cord through the loop. Pull the tassel cord to tighten it against the flag pole eye.

    • 4

Measure 12 inches down the double tassel cord. Wrap the double tassel cord around three of your fingers to form a loop.

    • 5

Hold the double tassel cord below the loop. Feed the double tassel cord up and through the loop to form a 1-inch loop. Feed the double tassel cord below this loop up and through to form another 1-inch loop. Continue this process to form four loop knots.

    • 6

Secure the knots in place by pulling the tassel cords completely through the fourth loop. Adjust the size of the knots so they are uniform.
