Instructions

    • 1

Insert the meat thermometer into the thickest portion of the steak, away from any bones, for accurate temperature monitoring. The thickest part of the steak takes the longest to cook and the meat temperature may be slightly elevated near bones.

    • 2

Position the steaks onto the heat (grill, skillet or oven) and set the timer for 3 minutes for a 1 to 1 1/2-inch-thick steak. Allow the steak to cook until the timer beeps. Flip the steak over and set the timer for 3 minutes again.

    • 3

Remove the steak from the heat source when the meat thermometer reaches 125 F. Allow the steak to rest for approximately 5 minutes before serving. The meat temperature rises about 10 degrees during the resting period and develop flavor and tenderness, according to a "Sunday Times" article on cooking the perfect steak.

Tips & Warnings

  • Thicker steaks require an extra minute or two of cooking time on each side. Use the meat thermometer as the definitive indicator for cooking the meat.
