How to Turn Off UDP Printing

How to Turn Off UDP Printing thumbnail
Universal print drivers use one driver for several devices.

Universal print drivers (UDPs) allow you to connect several different printing devices to a computer without having to install separate drivers for each device. Decreasing the number of drivers installed decreased the amount of time that must be spent keeping the drivers current and trouble-free. It also allows new devices to be connected without new programs being installed. This means the devices are functional sooner and there are fewer resources taken up with multiple files. If you no longer need a UDP, uninstalling the universal driver is quick and easy.

Instructions

  1. Uninstall from Printer Tab

    • 1

Open your printer folder from the control panel or start menu. Click on "File" then "Server Properties."

    • 2

Click on "Drivers." Find the universal print driver in the list of drivers. Click on the driver then click "Remove."

    • 3

Click "Yes" when prompted by the computer that you wish to uninstall the driver.

    Uninstalling from Programs

    • 4

Click on the start menu. Select "All Programs" and find your universal driver in the list of programs. Click on the driver and select "Maintenance" or "Uninstall."

    • 5

Check "Remove" in the driver box that pops up. Click "Next."

    • 6

Choose the driver components you wish to uninstall from the list and click "Next." Confirm you wish to remove the driver and click "Finish."

Tips & Warnings

  • Not all UDPs will have an uninstall from programs; they will all show up in your "Printers" folder.

  • Before you remove the universal print driver, make sure you have the individual drivers for your printing devices.
