Instruction on Ways to Tie a Sarong thumbnail
A sarong skirt is a great cover-up for a bathing suit.

A sarong is a length of fabric that can be tied to form a skirt or a dress. You can create your own sarong by finishing the ends of a 2-yard length of fabric. Choose a sheer fabric for the beach. A print works well with a solid-colored bathing suit. Pair a solid fabric with a print suit. Use an opaque silk sarong to make a dress. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Skirt

    • 1

Wrap the long edge of the sarong around your waist with the center of the sarong at the center of your back.

    • 2

Fold 8 inches on each end of the top edge to the inside.

    • 3

Grasp the top of one of the folds in each hand.

    • 4

Knot the corners together and pull the top of the sarong tight around your hips.

    • 5

Tie the corners again to make a double knot.

    • 6

Pull the knot to the side to reposition the slit directly over your leg for a flattering look.

    • 7

Pull the folded in sides out to cover the gap in the skirt.

    Halter Dress

    • 8

Wrap the sarong around your back and bring both ends to the front under your arms.

    • 9

Cross the top corners of the sarong in front of your neck.

    • 10

Tie the two top corners together behind your neck.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tie the sarong under your arms in the same way you tied it around your waist to make a strapless dress.

  • Twist the corners of the sarong around each other several times before you tie them behind your neck to vary the appearance of the halter dress.
