How to Mix Bonding for Plasterboard

Two methods exist for attaching plasterboard to a wall structure. You can screw the board into the frame if you are working with wood framing, or you can glue the board using chemical bonding materials or adhesives if you are adding plasterboard to a masonry surface. Preparing bonding material for gluing plasterboard to masonry areas requires properly mixing the adhesive to ensure successful adhesion

  • Rubber gloves
  • Plasterboard adhesive
  • 5-gallon plastic bucket
  • 1-gallon plastic bucket

Instructions

    • 1

Place rubber gloves on both hands.

    • 2

Fill both plastic buckets with cold water.

    • 3

Add two-thirds of the bonding or adhesive powder to the 5-gallon bucket of cold water. Set the rest of the powder aside.

    • 4

Connect the whipping paddle to the electric drill.

    • 5

Hold the bucket between your knees and turn on the drill. Whip the mixture using the whipping paddle until all the powder has dissolved and the mixture has a smooth consistency, like mud. If the mixture is too wet, add a few spoonfuls of the adhesive powder to make a thicker consistency. If the mixture is too dry, add a mug of cold water from the other bucket to achieve the desired consistency. The mixture should resemble thick and easy-to-spread cake icing.

    • 6

Immediately remove and clean the whipping paddle once the adhesive is the correct consistency.
