Open and read an SQLite file when you need to view or access settings stored for applications such as Mozilla Firefox and Open Office. You may want to view the contents of a SQLite file to determine what is preventing a program from starting. Use the SQLite Browser or SQLite Manager program to open and read SQLite files.

Read a SQLite File Using SQLite Browser

Step 1

Click the "Start" button on the Windows 7 desktop taskbar and click Internet Explorer in the menu that appears. Type the SQLite download URL (sourceforge.net) into the address bar located near the top of the Windows Internet Explorer window. Press the "Enter" key.

Click the green "Download" button and click the "Click here for options…" bar that appears at the top of the Web page. Select Download File from the menu that appears. Click the "Save" button when prompted and navigate to the directory to which you wish to save the downloaded file. Note the name of the file in the File Name field and click the "Save" button.

Click "Start" on the Windows 7 desktop taskbar and click Computer. Navigate to the directory where the file downloaded in the previous step was saved. Right-click the file and select Extract Here from the menu that appears. Double-click the sqlitebrowser directory and double-click the SQLite Database Browser file.

Step 4

Click the File menu near the top right corner of the SQLite Database Browser window that opens and select Open Database. Browse to the location of the SQLite file you wish to read and click the file. Click the "Open" button. The SQLite file contents will display.

Read a SQLite File Using the SQLite Manager Mozilla Firefox Add-On

Step 1

Open the Internet Explorer Web browser and enter the URL of the Mozilla Firefox download Web page (mozilla.com) into the address bar near the top of the Internet Explorer Web browser. Press the "Enter" key. Click the "Firefox Free Download" button and click "Run" in the window that appears. Click "Run" in the Internet Explorer—Security Warning window. Click "Next" in the Mozilla Firefox Setup window and accept all defaults to complete the Mozilla Firefox installation.

Step 2

Double-click the Mozilla Firefox shortcut located on the Windows 7 PC desktop. Click the address bar near the top of the Mozilla Firefox Web Browser window that opens, and enter the SQLite Manager download page URL (mozilla.org) into the address bar. Press "Enter."

Step 3

Click the "Add to Firefox" button in the Web page that appears and click "Install Now" in the window that appears. Click the File menu near the top right corner of the Mozilla Firefox Web browser and select Exit from the menu that appears to close Mozilla Firefox.

Step 4

Open the Mozilla Firefox Web browser and click the Tools menu. Select SQLite Manager. Click Database in the window that appears and select Connect Database.

Step 5

Browse to the directory location of the SQLite file you wish to read. Click the file and click "Open" and the contents of the file will display.
