How to Use Swype on Droid

Depending on the model of your Droid, you may or may not have a full keypad that slides out from the phone. If you do not have this feature, you may find that it is easy to accidentally type an incorrect character. Use your Droid's "Swype" feature to avoid incorrect character input. Swype lets you type an entire word and touch the screen only one time. Your Droid then interprets your motions and shows the matching word.

Instructions

    • 1

Touch the first letter of the word that you want to type. For example, if you want to type "Morning," place your finger on the "M."

    • 2

Drag your finger to the next letter in the word. Do not lift your finger off of the screen. For "Morning," drag your finger across the screen to the "O" button.

    • 3

Drag your finger to the next letter in the word. Continue dragging your finger to each letter until you have spelled the entire word.

    • 4

Lift your finger off of the screen when you are done with the word. The word should appear on your screen. Some actions may correspond to several words. "Writ" and "wit," for example, would take identical Swype motions. If this is the case, Swype provides you with a list of matching words. Touch the one you want to select it.

    • 5

Repeat this process for the next word. Swype automatically adds a space between words, so you do not need to do so.

Tips & Warnings

  • To type the same letter twice in a row, draw a small circle or wiggle your finger back and forth over the letter you want to duplicate.

  • You do not need to drag your finger precisely to each letter, but you should get close. As you practice using Swype, you will find a compromise between speed and precision.Spell out words manually to add them to Swype's library. Press the Space key after the word. This makes Swype learn the word for future use.
