How to Prevent Kids From Erasing Browser History in Firefox

While it's great to have a family computer, especially one on which you can keep track of your kids' internet habits, it's also annoying when they change your settings. While Firefox lacks a built-in setting to keep someone from changing your settings or removing your browser history, a free add-on called Public Fox lets you limit who can make changes to your Firefox settings and history.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Firefox.

    • 2

Select "Firefox" and "Add-ons" to open the Add-ons window.

    • 3

      Select the "Extensions" tab.

    • 4

Select "Public Fox" from the list of Extensions.

    • 5

Click the "Options" button to open the "Public Fox Options" dialog.

    • 6

Select the "Lock Firefox Options" and the "Lock History Sidebar" options.

    • 7

Enter a password in the first "Lock Password:" field. Repeat it in the second field.

    • 8

Click "OK." When you or another user on your computer try to make changes to the settings or history in Firefox, you'll be asked for the password you entered.
