2- to 3-inch nylon paintbrush
Acrylic floor paint or 2-part epoxy paint
Add visual interest to ordinary particle-board flooring and protect it from wear and rot by refinishing it with the right paint. Before you apply the paint, prepare the particle board to accept the new finish, or flaking will occur. Particle board is ill-suited for paint adhesion unless you first treat it with a particular type of primer. Select a paint specifically engineered for particle-board flooring.

Vacuum the floor.

Wipe down the particle board with sticky tack cloths.
Step 3
Protect areas adjacent to the floor by covering them with painter's tape.
Step 4
Open a container of acrylic latex primer and stir it, using a wooden stir stick. Pour 2 gallons of primer into a 5-gallon bucket. Coat the particle board floor with primer, using a roller equipped with an extension pole and stocked with a shed-free cover. Begin in one far corner of the room and roll vertically, moving backward toward the exit. Wait three hours for the primer to dry.
Step 5
Use a 2- to 3-inch nylon paintbrush to apply primer to all detailed areas that proved inaccessible to the roller. Wait three hours for the primer to dry.
Step 6
Wash the brush and roller with water.
Step 7
Coat the primed particle board floor with acrylic floor paint or two-part epoxy paint. Apply the paint just as you did the primer. Wait three hours for the finished floor to dry.
Warning
Do not paint an unprimed particle board floor, or the paint will flake.
Do not use ordinary latex paint on a particle board floor, or the finish will chip and peel.
