How to Dispose of a Dead Chipmunk

Save

If you have come across a dead chipmunk in your yard, you probably feel a bit shaken up. You will want to remove the chipmunk from your yard to avoid odors and contamination. To dispose of a dead chipmunk, you need to work safely in case the chipmunk carries disease. Do not touch the dead chipmunk.

Things You'll Need

  • Long-handled shovel
  • 3 plastic trash bags
  • Medical gloves
  • Put on medical gloves as a safety precaution. Small animals such as chipmunks may be contaminated with rabies or other diseases, and though the chipmunk in your yard may have died of natural causes, you do not want to take chances.

  • Place one trash back inside of another, and a third inside of that for extra thickness and strength. Set the bags on the ground near the chipmunk and open them so you can easily put the chipmunk inside.

  • Scoop up the chipmunk with a long-handled shovel. You may even scoop up the dirt beneath the animal as an extra precaution. Place the chipmunk inside the plastic bags.

  • Tie the bags tightly and place them in an outdoor trash can for pickup.
