Configure time zone support so your calendar alerts occur at the correct time.

Mac OS X's calendar application iCal supports multiple calendars and lets you add events you can share with others. When you create an event and set a time and date, iCal uses the time zone used by Mac OS X's system clock by default. If you change locations or travel a lot, you may want to configure iCal to support multiple time zones. ICal lets you switch the default time zone for all your events and also lets you set a specific time zone for a single event, if needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Open iCal if you don't have it open already. Click the "iCal" menu on the Mac OS X toolbar, then click "Preferences." Select "Advanced" and click the box next to "Turn on Time Zone Support." Click the red circle in the top left corner of the window to close the preferences.

Select your calendar's name in iCal's left pane. Click the time zone drop-down list in the upper right corner of iCal, then select the time zone you want to use for all iCal items. Click "Other" to use a time zone not in the list, type a city name in the "Closest City" box and click "OK."

Right-click an event's name and select "Get Info" if you need to set a different time zone for a specific event. Click the "Time Zone" drop-down list and select the time zone you want to use for the event. Select "Other" if the time zone does not appear on the list. Click the location on the map that appears and click "OK." Click the red circle icon in the upper left corner of the window to save your event information.
