Go to the Craigslist website (craigslist.org) and search for the city nearest you. Read through the categories in the "For Sale" section in the center of the page until you find the one that best describes the item you wish to sell and click it. For example, if you wish to sell a flute, click "Music Instr." This takes you to a page with listings in the category you selected.

Click "Post" in the upper right corner of the page. Click the button beside the category you previously selected. If you are selling a car, truck or motorcycle, your category is now divided into "by dealer" and "by owner." Choose the option that best describes you. Click "Continue" when you have selected your category.

Choose the nearest area from the list of options that appears, and then click "Continue" again. The next page displays even more detailed locations. Click the one nearest you if you wish, or click the "Bypass this step" option if you do not wish to provide a detailed location. Click "Continue" to go to a page where you can compose your ad.

Type a descriptive title for your ad in the field provided and provide a price if you wish. Enter your email address twice, and then choose whether to hide your email address completely (in which case you should provide another means of contact in the body of the ad) or simply "anonymize" it, allowing users to email you via a Craigslist address about your item.

Describe your item thoroughly in the "Posting Description" section. Click "Add/Edit Images" if you wish to post pictures of your item. Click "Choose File," navigate to the picture you wish to add, and then click "Open" to add the picture. Click "Continue" when you are done composing the ad. This takes you to a preview of the ad; click "Continue" if it looks good or "Edit Again" to change it.

Check the email inbox for the account you provided as you wrote your description. Open the email that just arrived from Craigslist. Click the link provided within the email. Click "ACCEPT the terms of use" on the page that opens, and then type the verification code into the box provided and click "Continue." This publishes your post.
