How to Remove the Back of an LG Optimus S

The battery of a mobile device can generally last for several months or years before it must be replaced. If you have been using your LG Optimus for a while and have found that the battery no longer holds the charge it once did, it may be time to replace it with a new one. The battery cover of the LG Optimus S is secured with inner locking tabs that you can pry apart to remove the cover. Use the indentation on the side of the phone to gain leverage.

  • Push and hold the Power/Lock button in the upper-right corner of the LG Optimus S. A menu appears on the screen. Tap "Power Off" to turn the phone off.

  • Rotate the LG Optimus S to the right to locate the indentation in the seam between the body of the phone and the battery cover. The indentation is near the memory card slot.

  • Place your fingernail in the indentation. Turn your fingernail to pry the cover away from the back of the phone. As the opening widens, place your finger in the seam between the phone and battery cover for greater leverage.

  • Pull the two halves of the LG Optimus S apart until the cover is completely removed.
