How to Customize a Pageant Sash
A pageant sash is given to the winners and/or participants of a pageant (beauty, talent). Sashes can be given to each contestant to display their names, or other identifying criteria (country, state, town). Winners of the pageant also typically receive a sash that state their final ranking (winner, second, third). The sash is made of various types of cloth. Does this Spark an idea?

Examine a sash and determine how it should be customized. Having a clear plan in mind helps avoid mistakes and makes the sash come to life.

Add letters. Additional lettering can be added to expand on the original lettering. For example; if the sash says "Florida," pre-made letters can be sewn on with the girl's initials. This adds a personal touch to the sash.

Add paint. Paint can be used to make the sash more colorful. Typically, sashes are one solid color. Painting the sash allows the wearer a chance to express her creativity. For example; a mural can be painted on the sash or just a free-form expression.

Add extra materials, such as sequins, bows and cloth; these can be attached to give the garment some depth. The sash does not need to be a boring accessory. It can be vibrant and royal. The more textured the sash, the more presence it has.

Add costume jewels. Costume jewels make the sash sparkle and gives the illusion of jewelry. Costume jewels are inexpensive and can be attached in any pattern. The jewels can even be arranged as embroidery for the lettering on the sash.
