The Dell Studio computer provides a number of video output options for both computing and entertainment. The combination of high-definition graphics and an available HDMI port make the studio a good option when watching streaming Internet presentations on an HDTV. In most cases, simply connecting the HDMI cable to the Dell Studio with a compatible television should be the only step necessary to establish a video connection. When this does not happen, you need to manually specify the video output option in the Windows operating system.
Right-click on an empty area of the Windows desktop screen.
Click "Personalize" at the bottom of the pop-up menu that appears on the screen.
Click "Display Settings" at the bottom of the Personalization window.
Use the options in the Display Settings window to adjust the resolution, refresh rate and definition settings for your monitor. When two monitors, using different output ports are connected to the computer at the same time, the are listed in the Display Settings box as "1" and "2." Click the "Identify Monitors" button at the top of the window to identify which monitor's settings you are changing.
Tips & Warnings
- Turn the computer off before connecting the HDMI or any other video output cable. A hardware scan is performed each time the system boots. This scan is more effective at locating and adjusting to new monitors than the software plug-and-play scans.
